Most Popular Photovoltaic Module Sizes (Wattage) Accredited in Australia.
2/2/2011 4:16:17 PM

There is almost six thousand Photovoltaic (PV) modules, across 200 companies, accredited in Australia according to the AS/NZS 5033 Compliant PV Modules List of the Clean Energy Council. Such diversity in the PV modules market in Australia provides plenty of options to supply solar energy projects, however, not all these are available to retail customers.
It is interesting to see which PV modules are most popular in the market. The following graph shows a distribution of wattage modules (between 100 watts to 300 watts) accredited in Australia, cumulative to November 2010.

Distribution of PV modules accredited in Australia by size (wattage), Cumulative, Nov 2010.

Solar panels accredited in Australia can be classified into two different groups: the most commonly offered by companies, and the least commonly offered. The most common modules are between 161w and 240w. They represent 67% of the total PV modules list reviewed. In particular, the most common sizes are: 180w, 200w, 210w, and 220w.

On the contrary, the least common module sizes are those under 160w and above 240w. PV modules above 240w (up to 300w) represent 17% of total modules analysed. Typical sizes offered among this group are 270w and 280w modules. In the case of PV modules under 160w (down to 100w), these represent 16% of the total. 155w and 120w modules are the most commonly offered for the group under 160w.
